Cosmelan works by inhibiting a specific enzyme (tyrosinase) which is directly involved in the production of melanin. Melanin is the dark pigmentation the body produces in response to UV exposure, hormones, ageing and acne. By supressing this enzyme, melanin production is slowed dramatically and pigmentation is treated instantly.
Unlike normal peels, Cosmelan targets deep below the surface of the skin and reaches the origin of pigmentation to correct the overproduction of pigmentation to prevent reappearance.
So, what does the treatment involve?
A pre-treatment peel 2 weeks prior to the appointment that will prep the skin to ensure maximum results.
Cosmelan 1 (de-pigmentation mask) is then applied in salon and left on for 8-12 hours after the appointment. Over the next 2-3 days, you can expect some redness, itchiness and peeling (all completely normal!) however after this, you will instantly notice your results.
From here, then you begin with the homecare pack included in the Cosmelan package. This will consist of a cream applied twice daily to enhance the effects of the mask. Melan recovery is a balm with a calming and healing vital to the skins recovery post treatment. As well as the Melan 130 Pigment control 50+SPF that will protect the sensitive skin from UV damage.
